Before and After

Going White in the Kitchen

I am a big fan of crisp and clean all-white kitchens, so long before we chose our house, I knew that our kitchen would be painted white.  We got super lucky that our cabinets are already white, so we were just left with the wall color.  Once again, after starting to do some research on which white we should use, I realized that it was almost as difficult as gray, if not more so.  Paint, why ya gotta be so complicated all the time?  Some of the whites that kept coming up were Benjamin Moore White Dove, Decorator’s White, and Cloud White.  I was feeling kinda empty in my bank account when I was at Blackhawk Hardware so I decided on just getting samples for White Dove and Decorator’s White.  Wow was Decorator’s White white.  I mean real white.  I was wanting a clean white, but I also wanted it to be a little bit warm and not blinding.  White Dove seemed more our speed and after careful analysis of 58 other white paint chips (thanks to Megan’s paint chip box), we decided to just go for it.  (You can tell I am starting to get sick of spending hours upon hours on decisions because we also decided to purchase a sofa the same day I bought the paint.  Whoops.)

Here is the before picture when the previous owner was still living in the house.  It was a friendly yellow, but alas, not what I wanted.

I quite like it; I think it makes the kitchen look just a bit fresher.  Other fun kitchen updates include rugs from West Elm (love this one) and Dash and Albert, as well as my dining chairs from the old apartment painted blue.  I am intending to update all three light fixtures, and the fan is definitely hitting the bricks.  Don’t worry, I will be centering that one over the table whenever I update it.  Just in case you guys noticed that.  Also, many thanks to Corey for taking the pictures so I could go to yoga.  He did a lovely job, don’t you think?

I am so right there with you!!! I will (one day) have an all white kitchen! I actually just dined at the most beautiful restaurant and immediately decided that it was the inspiration for my future kitchen! Your kitchen turned out so gorgeous!!! Can I come have breakfast with you now?! 😉 XO Brynn

I like it and the painted furniture! Can’t wait to get my living and dining room finished. Have the holes patched in ceiling!!!!! been working on it since Saturday. Have just a little more sanding. Guess Dad g wanted it finished before I turned 100 so he has hired a guy to finish taking off the popcorn. Ha Ha I will follow him with the paint!
