Summer Reading

Now that I am an adult with a job and responsibilities, it is getting harder for me to get excited about summertime.  Without long periods of time off or leisurely days spent by the pool (not allowed anymore with my fair skin), it just doesn’t feel like summer.  Not like how it used to.  One thing that I will be taking part in is a summer reading list.  There is nothing better than escaping into a book, and I want to have lots of them on the horizon for me to look forward to.

{My favorite reading spot}

Here are a couple that I am including in my list.  Please let me know if there are any must reads that I am not including.

1) Game of Thrones, Books 2 and 3 – I read the first book after I finished watching the first season and made an executive decision.  I liked the show better than the books, so I would only read a book if I was finished watching that portion of the show.  I think I am now able to read books 2 and 3 without any major spoilers.  Correct me if I’m wrong on this one.

2) The Goldfinch – So some people have told me they love this book, and others have told me it is only so so.  I might as well decide for myself.

3) Lean In – My new mantra for life is that women are better at everything.  Ok not really, but I have started to become more confident in my opinions and work, particularly in the office.  Everyone and their mother has recommended this book to me and I am excited to hear how Sheryl is able to be such a bad ass.

4) The Vacationers – Hopefully a light fun read that will make me feel nice and summery.

    I’ve just started reading Reconstructing Amelia. A friend told me it was one of her top 5 books. I’ll let you know what I think once I’m finished. Yes, you are fine to read books 2 and 3 of GOT. There won’t be any spoilers only a few additional side story lines. I’ve been out of college for 6 years and I still miss summer vacations!

    I have a new favorite series: The Walt Longmire Books. I hate western flicks but this “western” is set in current day Wyoming and Sheriff Longmire is the main character. You have to start at the beginning of the series. You can even see the series on Netflix.
