New Years Eve

Calligraphy Practice

I have never been a big resolutions girl.  I think it is a nice idea but have never really taken it super seriously.  My New Years started out a little bit rough this year because I was sick.  And when I say sick, I mean I was down and out.  I honestly don’t remember ever feeling this bad before.  Whatever is going around right now, y’all don’t catch it.  So around January 1, my resolution fell more in line with watching as much Games of Thrones as possible and drinking chai lattes than it did with making big life changes.  Now that I am feeling better, and I have thought about things, I have decided that I still don’t want to put any focus on making a change.  That may sound pretty lazy but the thing is, I spend plenty of time beating myself up about things that I don’t do well enough without dedicating a resolution to it.  This year I will undoubtedly continue to have flaws but I am pretty sick and tired of worrying about that.  The important thing is that I do my best most of the time on most days and that should be just fine, I think.  Nobody is perfect.

What I am going to allow myself to focus on this year is trying new things and doing things I enjoy.  I have always said that I want to learn calligraphy so this year for Christmas, Colleen bought me an online calligraphy course and some supplies to get started.  So I have been taking some time in the last 2 weeks to practice that.  Spoiler alert…I am not a pro yet.  Not even close.  It is a shame really.  I was truly hoping that I would be a master calligrapher right from the start but the reality of the situation is that I am not.  It is pretty tough cookies, this calligraphy business.  Lots of stuff to remember and it turns out I have a heavy hand.  Who knew?? I have been at it two weeks and I am still tracing as I don’t feel comfortable with the letters yet.   Oh well.  I will persevere and hopefully this time next year will be penning lovely works of art.

I love this resolution! I think calligraphy makes everything seem more fancy. You could write your letter of resignation all about how much you hate your company in calligraphy, and your boss would say “Oh wow, Megan really is just a great person.” I am excited to see how your practice goes!

I think it seems fancy too! And pretty. 🙂 Just to clear up any confusion in case my bosses read this, I do not hate my companies. 🙂 I think Nicole was just giving any example about how you can use calligraphy for fanciness.

I dunno man. Looks pretty good to me.

So proud of you! I did that many years ago and have always enjoyed writing. Even at 79 years young, people can still read my writing and that is an accomplishment!!!
Keep up the good work! Happy New Year!!
