Pete and Sarah’s Irish Rehearsal Dinner

As I mentioned last week, one of my best friends got married this weekend and I was honored to be asked by his mother to help her plan and coordinate the rehearsal dinner.  The wedding had an Irish theme because both Sarah and Pete come from Irish families so a wedding on the weekend of St. Patrick’s Day seemed like the obvious choice.  Susan (Pete’s mother) and I decided we should try to stay with an Irish feel as well to fit in with the wedding weekend.  As I showed you guys in my mood board last week, I wanted it to feel Irish by using greens and natural elements but for it to be subtle and elegant.   I got some pictures of the decorations before the dinner started but was so scattered that I forgot to get pictures of any people (SO dumb) and only got one picture once the candles were lit.  This, my dears, is why I need Colleen with me any time I am supposed to document something.  She is so much better of a photographer and always remembers to get pictures of the important things.

I collected greens and made a garland for a statement piece on the fireplace.  I purchased some flowers to add in so that it would be more springy.

I also used greens in the centerpiece with the addition of babies breath.  Colleen was a doll and helped me design the table numbers and placecards.  She also (very patiently) put all of the guests name into each placecard and sent them to me so I could print them out.  Seriously could not have done it without her.

I used a few vessels I had that I thought would work and arranged some flowers in them for the buffet table.

We decided to use a Celtic knot design on the placecards and it was Susan’s idea to use a Celtic font.  I also tied little sprigs of dried lavender together for each place.  It is an Irish wedding tradition to incorporate lavender for love and luck.

Here is a picture of the bride and groom that I stole from Facebook of the wedding day.  I didn’t carry my camera on the wedding day since I was in the bridal party so I didn’t take any of my own pictures.  Aren’t they a beautiful couple?  I have known Pete for half of my life and I have never seen him more emotional and open with his feelings than he was during his vows.  It was really very touching and most everyone in the room had tears in their eyes.  In fact, most of the bridal party had to have their makeup touched up after the ceremony.  It was really a very special moment and made me very proud of him.

Here is sweet picture of beautiful Sarah and her adorable son that I just had to share.  So precious.

Also, big shout out to my assistants and loyal Wednesday dinner dates Caitlin and Roo who were crazy helpful.

Love you Pete and Sarah!
